Sugar, Spice, and Reproductive Rights - Cause Candle - 8oz frosted glass jar

$20.00

While it seems like we're getting political with this Cause Candle, we don't see it like that. It's about supporting women. And that's apolitical. You either give a damn or you don't.

In light of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe V Wave in June 2022, we knew this was a topic that's personally important to us and that our next Cause Candle would be focused on reproductive rights. It's important to support causes that help provide access to safe, legal abortions wherever people live. Abortion is healthcare.

We've been crafting our Cause Candle collection sinch March 2020. This was a rotational scent in 2022, but this is such an important cause that Sugar, Spice, and Reproductive Rights is now our first permanent Cause Candle. We will make this candle until the decision whether to continue or end a pregnancy belongs to the individual, not the government. And even then, we'll still make this candle.

10% of each of these candles goes directly to Midwest Access Coalition. MAC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (EIN 47-2160168). As a practical abortion fund, MAC helps people traveling to, from, and within the Midwest access a safe abortion by assisting with travel coordination and costs, lodging, food, medicine, and childcare. You can learn more about them here: https://www.midwestaccesscoalition.org/

Sugar, Spice, and Reproductive Rights is a gourmand blend of warm black cardamom, cinnamon, and chestnut muddled with rich cream. It's infused with essential oils of cardamom oil. Some folks say it smells like a cardamom latte, others say the bedtime treat of warm milk and sugar (I'm assuming this is a midwestern thing). I think it smells like a deep hug inside a coffee or spice shop. It's comforting and familiar.

It's notes are:
Top: cinnamon + peppercorn
Heart: black cardamom, cream, ginger
Base: chestnut

~~~~~
Since the start of our Cause Candles in March 2020, we've donated over $18,000 to local (Milwaukee or Midwest) nonprofits that align with our personal and business ethics. We've supported Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Make-a-Wish Wisconsin, Meals on Wheels, Autumn Farm Sanctuary, Next Door Milwaukee Foundation, Tiny Hooves Animal Sanctuary, and Midwest Access Coalition. The vetting criteria for the organizations we support comes down to these things- they need to support families, children, or animals in our community. They are organizations we would (or do) support in our personal lives.
In 2022 we raised and donated $4,266 to Midwest Access Coalition from the sale of this candle- Sugar, Spice, and Reproductive Rights.
Running a small business is a unique opportunity to literally put your money where your mouth is and share your values with your customers. If you don't support the organizations we support, that's fine. But if you do, thank you.
Care instructions
Let's talk about basic candle care. These apply to all 100% soy candles, not just Yetis.
1. Trim your wick - Before every lighting, trim the wick of your candle to about 1/4'' for a clean beautiful burn. You can use a fancy wick trimmer, a pair of scissors, or even just your fingers (which is what we do 99% of the time).
2. Let it burn- Allow the wax of your candle to melt to the edge of the container every time to ensure a complete and even burn. This prevents tunnelling.
3. Never let a burning candle out of your sight. And don't burn it for more then 4 hours at a time.
4. Let it go- when only 1/4'' of wax remains in the jar, blow it out and clean it out with hot soapy water. Recycle it or repurpose the jar or tin.
My favorite candle maker and love that she’s local in Milwaukee!
